CHARACTER SELECT ANIMATION

Character Select Animation - THOR

In my Fall 2024 animation course, I created a Character Select Animation using the free Thor rig. Check out my process below!

In my initial storyboard, I took the time to plan out how my camera would move throughout my animation, especially in fast-paced moments. After, I blocked out my key shots in Maya using stepped keyframes, then slowly transitioned to a clean, polished animation using splined keyframes.

I'm really proud of the outcome of this project! In particular, I really like how I animated Thor's wrist movements along with the camera in the first half of the animation -- I think blocking out the camera during the storyboarding process really paid off. If I had more time to dedicate this project, I probably would have tired to spend more time integrating it into Unreal and fixed some of the bugs that appeared on import (ex: twisting limbs).

I also created game-ready character animations (idle, walk, run, attack, etc) using the free Baqir rig! Similar to my Thor animation, I also integrated these animations into Unreal Engine, and used Blueprints, Blendspaces, Montages, and more Unreal animation tools to allow a player to control the animations. Check out my demo below!

This project was my first time ever using  and learningUnreal Engine, so it was definitely a struggle at some points. For example, I was stuck for a while trying to get my attack animations to trigger and to get both my run and walk animations to play However, I'm proud that I was able to work through and problem solve in Unreal in order to get my project working! If I had more time, I'd go back and create an environment for the red panda so that players could feel like they were actually exploring a map (similar to the work I did in my solo Unity project!).
